Boat Quay - Singapore
Boat Quay is a historical quay in
Singapore which is situated upstream from the mouth of the Singapore River on
its southern bank.
It was the busiest part of the
old Port of Singapore, handling three quarters of all shipping business during
the 1860s. Because the south of the river here resembles the belly of a carp,
which according to Chinese belief is where wealth and prosperity lay, many
shophouses were built, crowded into the area.
Though serving aquatic trade is
no longer Boat Quay's primary role, the shop houses on it have been carefully
conserved and now house various bars, pubs and restaurants. Therefore Boat
Quay's social-economic role in the city has shifted away from that of trade and
maritime commerce, and now leans towards more of a role accommodated for
tourism and aesthetics for the commercial zone of which encloses the Singapore
River. It is the soft front to the cosmopolitan banking and financial sectors
lying immediately behind it.

Chinatown, Singapore
Singapore's Chinatown is an
ethnic neighbourhood featuring distinctly Chinese cultural elements and a
historically concentrated ethnic Chinese population. Chinatown is located
within the larger district of Outram.
As the largest ethnic group in
Singapore is Chinese, Chinatown is considerably less of an enclave than it once
was. (Note: The name Chinatown is given by the British and today usually used
by non-Chinese Singaporeans, whereas Chinese Singaporeans usually use the term
Niu Che Shui as the term Chinatown usually refers to enclaves of Chinese people
in regions where Chinese people are the majority ethnic group.) However, the
district does retain significant historical and cultural significance. Large
sections of it have been declared national heritage sites officially designated
for conservation by the Urban.

Bugis Street - Singapore
Bugis, in Singapore, was renowned
internationally from the 1950s to the 1980s for its nightly gathering of trans
women, a phenomenon which made it one of Singapore's top tourist destinations
during that period. Today, the original Bugis Street is now a cobblestoned,
relatively wide avenue sandwiched between the buildings of the Bugis Junction
shopping complex. On the other hand, the lane presently touted as "Bugis
Street" by the Singapore Tourist Promotion Board is actually developed
from New Bugis Street, formerly Albert Street, and is billed as "the
largest street-shopping location in Singapore". An attempt by the
Singapore Tourist Promotion Board to bring back the former glamour was
unsuccessful. Although the street is not a well-known tourist destination, it
is frequented by many Singaporeans.
Arab Street - Singapore Cultural City tour
Arab Street is the name of a road and neighborhood in
Singapore. There are two explanations behind the name. The first one is that
the area was owned by an Arab merchant, Syed Ali bin Mohamed Al Junied and that
it was the site of an Arab kampong, hence the name Arab Street. The Chinese
referred the street as jiau a koi Javanese, in the view of the Javanese who
used to be the majority inhabitants of the area. Spices, textiles, basketry
items and songkoks are sold along this row of shop houses with five-foot way at
Arab Street. In Tamil, Arab Street is known as pukadai sadkku (flower shops
street), because of shops selling homegrown flowers, lime and other goods sold
by Javanese women. In 1889, a huge fire occurred.
Change of Visa Rules & Regulation for UAE
Please be informed that as per
the latest amendment in visa rules and regulations, any tourist visa issued on
or after 01-JAN-2015 (on which, type of entry permit is written as
Tourist/Single-Short instead of Tourist) can not be extended. Validity of such type
of visa is limited up to 30 days from the date of entry.
As per the new visa policy,
clear documents (both passport copy and photo) should be attached along with
the application. Any document (passport copy and photo) which looks blurry,
skewed, haze or pixelated (mostly taken by a mobile camera) may be
inappropriate for visa submission and application with such documents may be
denied by the DNRD by saying "passport copy not clear". In order to
avoid such difficulties, please verify the attachments before sending your visa
request and inform the customer accordingly.
Some important information
The International Civil
Aviation Organization (ICAO) has set a deadline of the 24th November, 2015 for
globally phasing out of all non-Machine Readable Passports (MRPs). From the
25th November, 2015 onwards, foreign Governments may deny Visa or entry to any
person traveling on a non-Machine Readable Passport.
Many international travelers
may not realize that having an unexpired passport is sometimes not enough to
obtain Visas or to enter certain foreign countries. Any person traveling on
Passports which may expire in less than six months should renew their passports
before any upcoming international travel.
